Beihai Park Overview

A comprehensive guide to Beihai Park, one of the oldest and most beautiful imperial gardens in Beijing.

Beihai Park is one of the oldest and most beautiful imperial gardens in Beijing. It features a large lake, traditional pavilions, and the iconic White Dagoba on Jade Flower Island. It's a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city.

The park covers an area of 69 hectares, with more than half of it being water. It was first built in the 11th century during the Liao Dynasty and was expanded during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The park is known for its beautiful landscape design, which combines natural scenery with traditional Chinese architecture.

The most famous landmark in the park is the White Dagoba, a 35-meter-high Buddhist stupa located on Jade Flower Island. The island is connected to the shore by a bridge and features several pavilions and temples. The park also includes the Circular City, a small fortress-like structure with a temple dedicated to Guanyin, the goddess of mercy.
